Knitting season is fast approaching. Last winter I found this Super Simple Circular Hat Calculator online - it tells you how many stitches to cast on and how to do your decreases based on your desired hat circumference and your gauge. I printed it but it got so creased it fell apart. Now every time I want to refer to it I have to do some creative googling to find it again. So, I am adding a category to this here blog so I can link to it here and never lose it again. Good thing, since I have become like the Johnny Appleseed of this chart. Every time I see someone knitting a hat on round needles (more and more frequent as, well, knitting season is fast approaching) I'm all like "there's this chart! on the web! I'll email you the link!"
As long as we're being crafty, here is my favorite knitting blog Crazy Aunt Purl. And here is a post wherin she explains in a bazillion (but, it is entertaining) steps the same math that is the wonder of the chart.
Here's Kid modeling a rainbow hat I made based on the chart (we were on our way to Simon's birthday party). I say "based on" as when I was "done" I realized the hat was too small / short. So, I knitted an inch or so in 1 X 1 ribbing and attached it to the bottem. I think the overall effect is kinda cute - the way the cast-on row makes a little ridge. So, now I'll call this not an accident, but a technique.
