Thought I'd sneak a quick post in before we head to Tassie for a week. THAT will deserve a big ole trip de-brief post when we get back. (We're renting a camper ... BUT! We haven't told Z. We're going to keep it a secret until we get to the Britz pick-up place at the airport. Can't wait for her reaction. She has a campervan fantasy (I ave no idea what inspired it) - which has been nurtured by a Christmas gift of the Calico Critters / Sylvanian Families Camper. Stay tuned.) Anyway. Gymnastics. This is classic blog material because I totally need to brag about my kid - in such a way that would be obnoxious on FBook or IRL. She apparently has some innate gymnastics ability. (Apple : Tree?) When she started gym @ Brighton Rec when she was 6, she was asked to join the talent squad. I said thanks but no thanks. She wasn't THAT into it and it would have meant way more commitment than anyone was ready for. Fast forward 2 years. Her BFF with whom she has been doing gym is moving to QLD. She loved her coach - but it was really about going with F that was the draw to Brighton. There is a gym much closer to us than Brighton. I signed her up for a couple days of a holiday program at closer gym and told her if she liked it we could sign her up there for term 1. I asked the coach to watch her and let me know what level to put her in if she wants to do term 1 gym. I assumed beginner or intermediate. Alas. They said advanced. Or, they might invite her to be on the competition squad. These people and their squads! Anyway. She really just wants to do gymnastics. She's not so interested in comps. (Although, she does ask what level she needs to be to pick her own floor music ... she like the performance aspect of floor I think.) She loved the holiday program so we signed her up for the regular recreational advanced class. IF she decides she is interested in more later then we'll consider it. But at this stage she is just psyched that this gym has a full-size trampoline. I'm not sure what's so "advanced" about her. Her skills are not all that much ahead of other girls her age. Mt friend V (mom of Z's BFF) reckons it is something to do with her form / poise / focus. She does always have nicely pointed toes and she is very strong and flexible. At any rate - the pros think she's great! I'm happy that she likes it enough to have fun but not so much that I need to commit all my Saturdays to watching comps :-)
