(Two posts in one day?! Actually, it would be disingenuous to let you believe that I am truly prolific. I just emailed this "review" off the cuff to my book group. I thought I would elevate the blog by including an actual review - rather than lame hints (over there ... on the left) that I do read sometimes.)
I often grab an Anne Tyler when I am at the library and at a total loss for what to get. Isn't that weird - at any given time I can rattle off a dozen books I want to read ... except for when I am at the library or a bookstore. Then I draw a total blank. Anyway, Anne. "One of the Anne's" as Nancy Pearl says (I can't remember who the others are). Reliably good reads. Engaging characters. I liked A Patchwork Planet more than this reviewer. Although I can see why she said what she did about the protagonist, I did actually find him more charmingly - than exasperatingly - quirky. I don't know that I would run out and buy it if I were you - but I would grab it all the library.
