Last night was the Kindergarten Performance “Our World” and a family potluck at school. (They compiled all the kids’ “favorite foods” recipes into a cookbook … so now I have half a dozen recipes for Mac & Cheese, a bunch for tacos plus a nice selection of truly authentic dishes from the Ethiopian, Somali, Vietnamese, Chinese, Pilipino and Mexican families.)
I think the teachers do pretty much the same program year after year because last year we attended this event as an incoming K family and they sang at least a couple of the same songs. It made me weepy then (as I mentioned here) so you can only imagine my state last night - when my own child was part of the pageantry! (Except I had to focus on the camera – good distraction.)
The also sang “Let's All Live Peacefully” and “Living in a Rainbow.” Sniff. So cute. And each of the three classes did a performance. Kid and her two best friends in room two, T and N, were birds in "Animal Boogie". Her "kiss face boy" (her words) M was a seed in “A Rainforest Grew All Around”. Yes, I said “seed”. (Ahem. He was fantastic! It reminded me of when my brother stole the show as the mirror in Snow White.)
It was very very sweet. They had a visiting artist from this awesome organization who worked with them. She must have emphasized PROJECTING … hearing them was no problem. Honestly though, it was astonishing to see 60 five- and six-year old kids up on stage - so confident, having memorized lines and stage direction and all.
(I would upload it all but I think I brought down Motionbox's server with just this.)
